Ween
For more than twenty years now, Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo (better known as Dean and Gene Ween, respectively) have been unleashing their unique, eccentric brand of experimental pop on an unsuspecting world. Though they’ve attained limited commercial success over the years, with just one real hit (1992’s bizarre, helium-voiced “Push Th’ Little Daisies”) to their credit, they’ve established a devoted cult-following.
Ween’s collaboration with David Sanborn, “Your Party” appears on their latest release, La Cucaracha, album number 10 and their first for Rounder Records. “Your Party” marks the first appearance of horns in Ween’s music. According to press materials for the album, the band long ago swore they would never use brass on their recordings, “unless they could get David Sanborn.” The results are pure Ween: Funky, funny and just a bit off-kilter.
